Spring Fire Donation Run 18′
The Spring Fire in southern Colorado has affected many people in and around my hometown of La Veta Colorado. Several of the residents of the surrounding areas have lost their homes, hay fields, ranches, etc. This fire has currently burned over 107,000 acres and has completely destroyed more than 130 homes. With many ranchers having to evacuate their animals, they are left with nothing to feed them at the evacuation shelters. A group effort conducted by Dakota Mason of Rain For Rent and Dalton Mason of Redi Services, we were able to pull together and come up with a great group of people willing to help out. Robin of Robins Nest Farms donated 800 small bales of hay, 600 were hauled this past weekend and a future trip is in the works. Redi Services provided the labor to load hay and the trucking/fuel to haul the hay, Rain For Rent supplied labor to help load the hay, and Advanced Oilfield Services supplied labor to help load hay as well. As we drove south with this load of hay, we passed several people from Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and then in the town of La Veta that were blowing their airhorns, standing on the sides of the roads, and standing in their front yards waving at us as we drove by. With the emotional ties to this area, there are not words that can describe the feeling as we pulled in to town. Some of the ranchers that this hay went to could not even get the words out of their mouth due to the level of emotional appreciation for the donation. To me, there is no better feeling than stepping up in such desperate time of need. It is truly amazing to see people, some not even knowing where La Veta is, come together and help the people that need it the most. This will be undoubtedly the most memorable trip that I have ever had to opportunity to be a part of. I know I speak for the people of Huerfano County in saying that from the bottom of our hearts, we cannot say thank you enough to Jay Anderson and Gary Condos for allowing us to make this run.
